Spine Health and Purse weight

The average purse weighs 6 lbs but did you know you shouldn’t carry more than 10% of your bodyweight? I don’t think you were ever trying to achieve the “Curved Spine” look.  The heavier you pack your purse the more your body has to compensate to keep it from falling off your shoulder!  Too much wastes your time searching, restricts movement and can cause back pain, shoulder pain & headache.  Did you know according to a published 2013 study in the Journal of Physical Health that consistently wearing your purse on one shoulder can change the way you walk!!

What can you do?

Carry a backpack to evenly disperse the weight between your shoulders.  Don’t have a backpack? Then this is the perfect opportunity to show off two purses.  One for each shoulder!

Lighten your load.  Take out all the extra bottles, books, planners and cosmetics that quickly add weight.  Maybe it’s time to downsize forcing you to consolidate.

Exercise.  Make sure to actively work out, increasing your core strength through pilates, planks, sit-ups.  Need some really great people to follow on Instagram?  Here are my absolute faves @pilates949, @_ninamunoz and @mrandmrsmuscle

Good, better, best

Carry less than 6 lbs.  Crossbody is a better option than wearing on one shoulder.  Finally the best option to carry is with a backpack but make it fashionable by playing to your personal style!

Can’t decide how to care for yourself?  Here are some great options.
