How to clean & reapply wax to wax canvas
You’ve loved and worn the heck out of your L&K purse but the waxed canvas is getting a tad bit dingy and the wax is starting to feel more like cloth. Now what?
Supplies:
*Mild soap-castile soap like Otter Wax, Joy, Ivory, Dawn, Seventh Generation, Ecover, and Dishmate
*Scrubbing brush or wash cloth
*Bar of fabric wax like Otter Wax
No fake dirt here. This fabric was legitimately ground into dirt and smeared to ensure it had embedded dirt.
Dust the dirt & grime off to the best of your abilities.
Use a mild soap like a liquid castile soap to gently wash your waxed canvas with lukewarm to cool water. You can also use these mild soaps to clean your waxed canvas, Joy, Ivory, Dawn, and eco-friendly options such as Seventh Generation, Ecover, and Dishmate.
Sparingly apply soap to the area that needs to be cleaned. Dip your cloth or brush into water and gently scrub grime away.
Rinse with lukewarm water. Repeat if necessary. Allow to fully dry before you reapply wax or oils.
To reapply the wax use smooth, even strokes to rub the bar of wax over the canvas.
The friction from the rubbing motion will heat up the wax making it easier to spread. Smooth out the wax with your fingers. This is a super easy step and really fun like playing with finger paints.
Use your hair dryer on medium/high to reheat the wax so it penetrates the canvas.
This is a very hands on process so do not hesitate to use your hands to work the wax around. Once satisfied with your application let it cure in a warm area for 24-48 hours.
Now your waxed canvas is ready to repel water and dirt against the elements. But we are really talking about your lifestyle of taking care of your goods to last you a lifetime with intention. Your gramps would be proud.
Much love-Jessie
